Dave was notified via email on Wednesday evening that there
was a significant grading issue with the 3-hour final he had
taken the previous morning. A mandatory meeting was to
be held Thursday night up on campus.
[[ Note: the class is Legal Ethics ]]
~
We were throwing out ideas as to what could have
been the problem with the grading & how it would
affect his grade in the class... "was it the strange format
for answering the multiple choice questions that caused
the problem?" "Would the test have to be re-taken?"
Dave found out the answer at the meeting last night:
Turns out the teacher lifted all of the multiple choice
questions on the test from a published study guide for
the Bar Exam.

AKA PLAGIARISM
~
Does it get more ironic than that?! The entire class
is about ethical behavior for lawyers--not only in legal
practice but in every-day life as well.
Not too ethical to plagiarize the Ethics final.
So, the grading problem was that some students
had been studying from said bar exam study guide
& easily pulled 100% on the multiple choice section.
Unlike the professor, one of the students who recognized
the questions & actually understands what ethical
behavior is, reported it to a dean at the law school.
~
At first it was looking like the final would have to be
re-taken, but the students won-over the dean &
they were given the option to take the class as
'Credit/No Credit'. Meaning that as long as Dave
gets a C- or better, he gets credit for the class
without an actual letter grade affecting his GPA.

INCREDIBLE!!! What was the guy thinking?!

In other news, Chris & Robyn (my brother & sis-in-law)
are coming from Boston to visit in TWO DAYS!!!
Hooray! We can't wait to see you guys!

It's never failed to amaze me the sheer laziness of some law professors. Lots of them rehash the same lectures year after year, they don't have much to do/grade but the final and then they come up with a way to be lazy about that too. Crazy.
That's messed up. At least they didn't make Dave take it over. Because trust me, there is nothing worse than having to retake a final.
BTW - we're going to be in town from the 26th - 4th-ish. We all need to get together. I'll have my people call your people.
incredible. i hope that professor gets a big fat 'you're fired'. i'm so glad he didn't have to retake it though.
Nice story. It sounds like some people's unethical mistakes wind up benefiting society instead of hurting it. Hey we are wanting to get together with you guys. We'll be down that way on Dec 26- Jan 3/4/5 or something like that. Let us know when you are/aren't busy. We want to see little Cole-buddy too. Of course!
Ha- I didn't read Randy's message until after I posted mine. Sorry for the redundancy.
Ha ha, that's just great. Does that teacher still have a job?
I guess he missed the millions of lectures on plagarism given countless times at any university! Glad to hear that he didn't have to retake the test though.
